PETALING JAYA: Four Malaysians were stranded in Lebanon yesterday when Hezbollah-led protesters rioted by burning tyres and cars around Beirut.
They were on their way to the airport in Beirut at 4am (local time) yesterday to catch the 8am flight to Kuala Lumpur when the road they travelled on was blocked, said Wira Logistics Sdn Bhd accountant Simon Low.
The four who were unable to leave Beirut were Wira Logistics shipping manager Mustafa Alias, general manager Romly Suhut, director Wan Deris and contractor Daniel Cheaw.
Low said they had gone to at the Malaysian Embassy in Beirut and tried to make arrangement for the Lebanon government to arrange for local army personnel to escort them to the airport but failed.
The four left for Beirut on Jan 16 to attend to a vessel that carried equipment for the 200-odd Malaysian contingent who joined the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, said Low.
